Who We Are & What We Do
At the Senior Men’s Association of Stamford (SMAS), we are a community of men aged 55 and older who come together to stay connected, engaged, and active in retirement. Through weekly meetings, special interest groups, community service, and musical outreach, we create opportunities for meaningful connection, intellectual growth, and giving back.
Weekly Meetings
We meet every Thursday at 10:00 AM at Agudath Sholom Synagogue, 301 Strawberry Hill Avenue, Stamford, CT. Our meetings include refreshments, time to socialize, and a program led by a featured speaker. Speakers include authors, public officials, scientists, historians, and other professionals, and we often enjoy lively Q&A sessions. Meetings are open to the public, and we welcome visitors. (Note: Meetings are paused during our summer break from late June through Labor Day.)
Social Connection & Fellowship
At SMAS, staying socially active is just as important as staying informed. Whether it's chatting over coffee before our weekly meetings, participating in group discussions, or joining us for organized social outings, we value the friendships formed here as much as the programs we attend. Our welcoming environment helps new members feel right at home.
Educational Programs
Lifelong learning is at the heart of what we do. Our educational offerings include:
Finance Group – Meets the 1st Thursday of the month at 9:00 AM
Technology Group – Meets the 2nd Thursday at 9:00 AM
Current Events & Personal Investing Groups – Meet the 3rd and 4th Thursdays at 9:00 AM
These groups cover a wide range of topics from market trends and policy issues to emerging tech and practical digital skills.
Community Service
We take pride in giving back to the Stamford community through a range of volunteer efforts:
Providing free tax preparation for seniors and low-income residents
Serving meals at local soup kitchens
Organizing and supporting veteran-focused programs
Performing at nursing homes with our Songsters musical group
Assisting with park cleanups and other civic initiatives
